On the fence
Matt Gilbert
You wouldn’t believe
what I saw from the train,
as it slowed, outside Tulse Hill
a ghost, snagged on a wire,
between the embankment and
someone’s small back garden
rag cloaked, light pushing
through worn fabric, just
one thin leg had crossed over
caught in the act like a burglar,
frozen while trying to get out,
halfway between here and forever.
