Monsoon in Kuala Lumpur

Megan Cartwright

Running through Bukit Bintang

as fat drops of rain ricochet off the concrete,

soaking my shoes.

Thunder reverberates,

bouncing back as a wall of sound that is felt, like a slap

or the thrill of being dumped by a wave.

I laugh, to join the noise and

I laugh,

because I am alive in the humid, steaming air.
